Chizuko Koge Carlisle 1926-2013
Early Friday morning, February 8, 2013 Chizuko Koge Carlisle died peacefully and gracefully in the company of her family. She was a resident of Pensacola, FL since the 1950's and was married to William Calvin Carlisle. They met in Hawaii during WW2 where she was born and raised with 10 brothers and sisters of whom she was the oldest female sibling. Her parents emigrated from Japan in the 1910’s and her father worked as a fisherman.
After the death of her husband in 1989, Chizuko worked at Sacred Heart Elementary School for over a decade. There she touched the lives of hundreds of young people every day so deeply, that they still come asking for her as adults when they bring their own children to school. She was deeply loved and admired.
Surviving her death are 7 children, 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters. Her life was full of people who loved her and she will be remembered as strong and affectionate, beautiful and modest, the most generous, hardworking person and sweeter and lovelier than life itself.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 11, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at WATERS & HIBBERT FUNERAL HOME, 124 West Gregory Street, Pensacola, FL 32501. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola NAS.
