Captain Marvin (Mike) P. South, USN (Retired) of Pensacola, Florida passed away peacefully into eternal life on February 16, 2013. Mike was born in Criner, Oklahoma on May 25, 1917.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Zola South. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ochella South. He has one son, Richard, (Midge) of Minden, Nevada. He has 2 grandchildren, Richard, Jr. (Barbara) of Columbus, Mississippi and Tina Myatt (Steven) of Crestview, Florida and 9 great grandchildren. Brother, Tony (Mary) Oliver of San Francisco, California, Sister Audrey Guy of Norwalk, California and brother, Joe (Nong) Oliver of Dallas, Texas and sister in law, Shirley Odom, Auckland, NZ. Nieces and Nephews: Becky (Jimmy) of Marietta, Georgia, Pat (Carol) Pelham of Graceville, Florida, Jim (Sherry) Bass of Chipley, Florida, Dallas Bass of Pensacola, Florida, Linda Odom of Auckland, NZ, Maxine (Eddie) Davie, Sydney, Australia, Danny (Wendy) Odom of Auckland, NZ, Richard (Jenny) Odom of Auckland, NZ, Anthony (Donna) Odom, Perth, Australia.

Mike entered the Navy in 1943 and retired in 1969. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Presidential Citation-2, Air Medal-6, Legion of Merit, Navy Unit Citation, Commendation Ribbon, National Defense American Area, American Defense, European Area, Asi Atic Pacific, WWII Victor Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, Japanese Occupation, Korea Service Medal, Korean Citation, and Philippine Invasion. Mike was the Executive officer and Commanding Officer of 103. He was a manger of Industrial organization and commanding officer of NAS-Fallon, Nevada.

Mike leaves many loving friends and family and will be dearly missed by all. The service will be held at Warrington Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Visitation will be at 10:30 followed by the service at 11:30. Officiating will be Reverend Larry White.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of Warrington Baptist Church. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Warrington Baptist Church, 103 W. Winthrop Ave., Pensacola, FL., 32507 or the Naval Museum, 1750Radford Blvd., Pensacola, FL., 32508
